The Examination of Patients' Perceptions of Nursing Students' CareSevil OlğunAydın Adnan Menderes University, Faculty of Nursing, Department of Fundamentals of Nursing, Aydın, Türkiye
Aim: This study was conducted to examine hospitalized patients' perceptions of nursing students' care. Method: This analytical cross-sectional study was conducted with 330 patients hospitalized at a university hospital between March and September 2025. Study data were collected using the "Patient Identification Form" and the "Patients’ Perception of Care Scale for Nursing Students” (PPCSNS). Descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation), independent samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance, and Kruskal-Wallis H test were applied to analyze the data. Results: The mean age of the patients was 56.66 (SD = 5.72), 53.3% were female, 75.2% were married, and 52.4% were hospitalized in surgical clinics. 79.4% of patients reported being satisfied with the treatment and care provided by nurses, 56.4% stated they had previously received care from nursing students, and 32.1% reported being hospitalized 4 or more times. The mean PPCSPNS score of the patients was 4.25 (SD=0.50), and no significant differences were found in the PPCSPNS and subscale scores based on age, gender, marital status, or education level (p>0.05). Significant differences were found in the subscale and total scale scores of the PPCSPNS based on the clinic where patients were hospitalized, their satisfaction with the treatment and care provided by nurses, and the number of hospitalizations (p<0.05). Conclusion: The study found that patients have a high level of positive perception of care provided by nursing students. Further multicenter studies are recommended to support the generalization of these findings. Keywords: Perception of care, patient, hospital, nursing student, quality, clinic
