Determining The Health Literacy Levels of Students in The Faculty of Health Sciences and Comparing them with Students from Other Faculties

Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the health literacy levels of students enrolled in undergraduate programs and to investigate whether there is a difference in health literacy levels between students of the faculty of health sciences and students of other faculties of the university.
Method: The research is a cross-sectional study, and the population of the study consists of students from faculty of health sciences and other faculties. In the study, a stratified sampling method was used, and a survey was conducted on 415 students.
Results: 132 students (31.8%) from the faculty of health sciences and 283 students (68.2%) from other faculties participated, and there is no significant difference between them in terms of health literacy. The mean scores that students received from the health literacy test, which was scored out of 23 points, was 12.39 (SD=3.35) (%53,9).
Conclusion: It is a striking finding that the health literacy level of students in the faculty of health sciences is not significantly higher than that of students in other faculties. Specifically for the faculty of health sciences, it is recommended to make health literacy courses mandatory, provide interactive modules with real-life examples in these courses, and increase informative seminars and activities.

Y�ntem: Ara�t�rma, kesitsel bir �al��ma olup ara�t�rman�n evrenini, bir vak�f �niversitesinin sa�l�k bilimleri fak�ltesi ve di�er fak�ltelerinin ��rencileri olu�tururken, �al��ma tabakal� �rnekleme y�ntemi kullan�larak belirlenen 415 ��renci �rneklemiyle tamamlanm��t�r.
Bulgular: Ara�t�rmaya, sa�l�k bilimleri fak�ltesinde 132 (%31,8) ��renci ve di�er fak�ltelerde ��renim g�ren 283 (%68,2) ��rencinin kat�l�m� sa�lam��t�r. Her iki gruptaki ��rencilerin sa�l�k okuryazarl�k d�zeyleri aras�nda anlaml� farkl�l�k bulunmam��t�r. ��rencilerin sa�l�k okuryazarl�� d�zeyinin, 23 puan �zerinden ald�klar� ortalama puan 12,39 (SS=3,35) oldu�u (%53,9) belirlenmi�tir.
Sonu�: �al��mada, sa�l�k bilimleri fak�ltesi ��rencilerinin sa�l�k okuryazarl�k d�zeyinin, di�er fak�ltelerin ��rencilerinden anlaml� �ekilde daha y�ksek olmamas� �arp�c� bir sonu� olmu�tur. �al��ma verileri do�rultusunda, �zellikle sa�l�k bilimleri fak�ltesi i�in sa�l�k okuryazarl�� derslerinin zorunlu hale getirilmesi, derslerde ger�ek ya�amdan �rneklerin sunulmas� ve bilgilendirici seminer ve etkinliklerin artt�r�lmas� �nerilmektedir.
